Austin Dojo
The Austin Division of the TOGKF is directed by Sensei
Ty Yocham who has been actively studying and teaching
Okinawa GoJu Ryu Karate since 1989. His ranking and
leadership abilities are certified and recognized on an international
level. Sensei Yocham started his first assistant teaching
assignment in 1990, and has been instructing classes ever
since. His considerable experience includes adult karate
instruction, youth karate instruction, weapons instruction,
women’s self-defense classes, and demonstrations at
large events such as “The Big Boy Toy Show,” “City-Wide
Fourth of July Festivities,” the “Hairy Man Festival”
and numerous karate tournaments. The “Martial
Arts of the World” encyclopedia contains several pictures
of Sensei Yocham in its 2001 printing.
Sensei Yocham has been selected by his peers in the Texas
Okinawan GoJu-Kai Karate Federation (TOGKF) as “Instructor
of the Year” for eight of the past nine years (1995-2001
and 2003). Similarly, the quality of his classes are
reflected in their selection as “School of the Year”
each year for the past nine years (1995-2003). These
honors earned Sensei Yocham and his students the additional
honors of “TOGKF Instructor of the Decade” and
“TOGKF School of the Decade” for the 1990’s.
Mr. Yocham was inducted into the very first Texas Martial
Arts Hall of Fame as 1997 Instructor of the Year in the Okinawan
Division.
Mr. Yocham has demonstrated success in the competitive arena
as well. He and his students have participated in international
tournament competition, where team members have won numerous
gold, silver, and bronze medals. In addition, Sensei
Yocham’s classes, collectively known as Austin Okinawan
Karate, have, through his leadership, brought home the first-place
team trophy for the past six years from the TOGKF Winter Invitational
Tournament.
Sensei Yocham is currently serving as the International Secretary,
U.S.A. Vice-Chairman, the Texas State Director for the Kokusai
Okinawa Butoryu Gohokan Karatedo (KOBGK), and as an advisor
to the TOGKF. Mr. Yocham also served for two years (2001-2003)
as a member of the Governing Council (school board) for NYOS
Charter School in Austin, Texas.

THE BUSINESS SIDE:
- Tuition is due by the first of the month and late
after the 5th. The late fee is $10 per person.

classes are $70.00 per month for one class or $105.00 per
month for both classes.
- Pricing for the Adult Goju Ryu Karate class is $120.00 per
month.
- Pricing for the Weapons and White Crane classes vary so
please call for details.
Family Rates:
1st person in family = $ regular posted price.
2nd person in family = $20. discount
3rd person in family = $30. discount
4th person in family = $40. discount
Each after 4th = $50. discount
There is an annual organizational fee of $25.00 per family.
There are fees associated with tests that are passed on to
the students. These fees are nominal especially when considering
we are not a group that allows you to test unless you are
ready. For some it is sooner and for some it is later. There
is no particular test schedule. Also, it is a test and not
a ritualized “graduation” where everyone in the
class lines up and is “graduated” to the next
belt level regardless of their (in)abilities.
Weapons class:
If you are a member of one of the other classes the fee is
$40.00 per month. If you are not a member of one of the other
classes the fee is $70.00 per month.
Those interested in attending regularly scheduled classes
other than the class for which you are currently scheduled
you may do so with approval from Sensei Yocham. The "mat
fee" is $5.00 per class. |
